Maintaining a Healthy Diet during the Lockdown in Lebanon is Challenging
Our diet gets affected during the lockdown due to the pandemic. No doubt, our lifestyle behaviors have changed, especially in nutrition and eating behavior. How can we eat healthier during this situation?
According to a study, food can boost the immune system during the lockdown, and maintaining a healthy diet is essential during these times. Also, the World Health Organization is commending people for preserving a healthy lifestyle since it could increase their chances of a fast recovery if they were infected from the COVID-19. Moreover, frequently exercising, quitting smoking, and drinking alcohol, plays an essential role in determining how well people recover from the virus, the WHO indicates.
The closure of cafes, restaurants, and workplaces has subsidized people eating home. It seems that lockdown has fortified many people to revive the delights of home cooking. However, more regular food commonly and cooking from scratch is linked with a healthier diet, according to research.
“The lockdown drove me to embrace my passion toward cooking, especially the healthy food,” says Malak Rammal. “I started sharing on my social media different kinds of healthy plates from the beginning of the quarantine, and I received many positive feedbacks,” she adds. Rammal believes that she has her touch on what she cooks and tries to be creative in cooking Lebanese food. “We have to be aware of our health in the current time and manage what food we should eat,” she says.
From a hospitality background, Mario Jabbour believes that this is the right timing to invest in his experience. “Boredom eating is a problem, and improving our diet is the solution,” he says. “Hospitality gave me a solid knowledge about nutrition, and I am trying to be a supporter for my family and friends to help them cook food that has main minerals, vitamins, and protein,” he says.
Supporting our physical and mental health is an appropriate healthy choice in this socially isolated situation and substantially more than ever.
